Understand Rutgers New Brunswick’s campus layout
Use the overview map first: Rutgers–New Brunswick has five campuses across New Brunswick and Piscataway, grouped in the university’s descriptions as Busch, College Avenue, Cook/Douglass and Livingston. Cook and Douglass operate as one campus.
Rutgers offers a New Brunswick overview map alongside separate maps for Busch, College Avenue, Cook/Douglass, Livingston and downtown. If your plans cover more than one area, the overview helps you see the larger layout; switch to a campus map when you need to find a particular building or service.
The map is designed to help you locate buildings, residence halls, dining areas, student centers, recreation centers, parking lots and bus stops. Check the map that matches your destination rather than assuming that a campus name identifies one nearby cluster of places.

Find major campus destinations on the map
Use the campus descriptions to narrow down which map to open. College Avenue is Rutgers’ historic core in downtown New Brunswick. Busch is focused on engineering and sciences, Cook/Douglass has gardens and performance spaces, and Livingston is centered on Rutgers Business School.
The Rutgers–New Brunswick Visitor Center is on Busch Campus. It is the starting point for campus tours and an official New Jersey Visitor Information Center, and it provides information about Rutgers history. If a tour is part of your visit, make this a first stop in your planning and check the directions to the center.

How do you get between Rutgers campuses?

Rutgers’ campus bus system connects the New Brunswick campuses, so check the route information when your plans cross campus areas. The university provides weekday and weekend routes, route maps and online bus tracking.
Bus operating hours are Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m.–3:30 a.m., and Friday–Sunday, 24 hours a day. The Knight Mover operates Monday–Thursday, 3:00 a.m.–6:00 a.m. Because schedules and route details can affect your plan, check the official site before you go.
NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor provides service between New Brunswick and Newark train stations. The Rutgers campus bus system does not connect the New Brunswick, Newark and Camden campuses, so don’t treat it as a connection between those campuses.

Check visitor access and parking information
Visitors need a visitor permit to park on campus. You can create a guest account through the Parking Portal to purchase one; check the locations and rules that apply to your permit.
Visitor parking costs $5 plus tax for the first 8 hours, with an additional $5 plus tax for every additional 8 hours, unless otherwise stated. Visitor hours are 6:00 a.m.–12:00 a.m., unless otherwise stated. Cook Campus Lot 99D is a visitor-permit location in New Brunswick and Piscataway.
For an initial visit, a New Brunswick department-issued one-day visitor permission is free. It allows parking in common faculty and staff lots, with a College Avenue exception: parking there is limited to Lot 26, Lot 30 and the College Avenue Deck. For more detail, read what to check about Rutgers visitor parking before setting out.

Use the map to plan a North Brunswick stay
Rutgers University is about a 14-minute drive from Farrington Inn - North Brunswick, making it practical to plan your campus destinations and transport before you leave. Start with the overview map, note the campus for each destination, then check the relevant campus map and bus or parking information.
Keep the campus map handy as you plan your route to the Visitor Center or other stops; it can help you see which campus areas your visit includes.
